NORTHEAST REGION

The MCSP-Northeast Region was formed in 2006 with seven members.  Today, we are 25 members strong and have continued to make an impact on suicide in the northeast region on a grassroots level.

MISSION STATEMENT
  • To support and enhance the MCSP in its efforts to develop effective suicide prevention initiatives through leadership, advocacy, collaborations among organizations, and development of policies promoting research and development;
  • To promote the Massachusetts Strategic Plan for Suicide Prevention;
  • To increase membership in the Coalitions, both state and regional;
  • To proactively seek opportunities for outreach services;
  • To provide a resource center for questions, speakers and education for suicide awareness, prevention, intervention and postvention;
  • To assist communities in their efforts to increase suicide prevention and awareness and reduce the incidence of suicide on a grassroots level.
WHO WE ARE

We are a diverse group of individuals and organizations who meet 6 times a year.  Each year, the members decide on the goals for the coming year.  In addition, we sponsor an annual Leadership Breakfast in September in support of National Suicide Prevention Week.  We are a group of concerned people who are trying to 1) reduce the incidence of suicide through collaboration; 2) meet the individual needs of our membership; 3) increase awareness of both the state and northeast region’s efforts in suicide prevention; and 4) promote suicide prevention on a grassroots level.

OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
To date, we have accomplished the following:
  • Held 3 annual Leadership Breakfasts on different topics while recognizing both an adult and youth who have made a difference in suicide prevention
  • Held educational programs for MCSP-Northeast region members
  • Have increased our membership
  • Have a great resource for questions, speakers, education, etc. thanks to our diverse membership
  • Have trained over 500 people in the NAMI-NH Frameworks/Connect Suicide Prevention Project both in Haverhill and other towns (thanks to funding from the Dept. of Public Health and the MCSP).
